What to Know About Egremont's Special Town Meeting, October 21, 2023

Egremont will hold a Special Town Meeting on Saturday, October 21, at 10 AM at the Mount Everett High School Cafeteria, 491 Berkshire School Rd., Sheffield. Those registered to vote at town meetings will be asked to vote on the following four articles on the warrant:

  • ARTICLE 1: Vote to approve $29,000.00 to pay mandated back wages to a police officer.
  • ARTICLE 2: Vote to approve $10,000.00 for legal fees.
  • ARTICLE 3: Vote to rename its Board of Selectmen, the Select Board, by amending the General Bylaws to add a new Bylaw 22.
  • ARTICLE 4: Vote to accept the provisions of sections sixteen to sixteen I, inclusive, of chapter seventy-one of the General Laws providing for the establishment of an eight town regional school district, together with the towns of Great Barrington, Sheffield, New Marlborough, Stockbridge, Monterey, West Stockbridge, and Alford, to be known as the Southern Berkshire Hills Regional School District.

Printed warrants can be picked up at Town Hall.

Voters must be present at the meeting on October 21 to vote – absentee ballots are not allowed.

Requests for Public Records

Under Massachusetts 950 CMR 32, all requests for public records must be given to Juliette Haas, Public Records Access Officer, or Mary Brazie, Secondary Public Records Access Officer.

The Public Records Access Officer (RAO) will coordinate responses. Requests for public records may be made orally, including telephone requests, or in writing to the Public Records Access Officer. Written requests may be delivered by hand, mail, email, or fax.

Town Election

Egremont's General Bylaws established the second Tuesday in May for the Town Election.

2023 Annual Town Election Results

The Polls were declared open at 9:45 am by Warden Marlene Soudant

One hundred seventy-five of the Town's 1,091 registered voters cast their ballots. Poll workers were: Marlene Soudant (Warden), Monica Lanoue (Clerk), Gerard "Poly" Lanoue, Diane Tatro, Marjorie Wexler, Margaret "Peggy" Muskrat, Kevin Wheeler (Assistant Constable), James Olmsted (Constable).

There were zero provisional or challenged ballots and no spoiled ballots. The ImageCast electronic tabulator started at zero, and two "zero" tapes were printed. There were 175 names checked off the voter list. The polls were closed at 7:00 pm. The unofficial results were announced at 7:35 pm. Download the certified results below.
